I also steward the Foundation’s digital media archive, editing audio and video material for the Foundation as necessary.

Research, Archives, and Data Strategy Intern

Washington, D.C.

January 2018 - April 2018

I was a member of NPR's Research, Archives, and Data Strategy (RAD) team as the music metadata intern. In this position I worked primarily with RAD's in-house music database, Orpheus, to perform a number of responsibilities: propose, evaluate, and test new features or bug repairs; create and edit music metadata; evaluate the quality of music metadata; research and implement new music information retrieval (MIR) technologies to better improve Orpheus.

Moreover, as the RAD team is comprised of highly  I took on a number of responsibilities beyond the scope of my internship: I created and curated content for RAD's social media channels; I was an invaluable team member on NPR's hyper-collaborative Today In 1968 project; I undertook an independent project, "All Queers Considered," which explored LGBTQ narratives presented on America's flagship radio program "All Things Considered" from 1971-1983.

September 2017 - January 2018

As NPR's diversity intern, then diversity assistant, I was in charge of NPR's "Source of the Week," an initiative designed to make NPR programming look and sound more like America.

As such, I researched, vetted, and connected with diverse experts across the nation to maintain NPR’s “Source of the Week” newsletter, which reached an audience of over 1,000 journalists across the network; I conducted research and pre-interviews on potential experts for the database; I wrote and edited copy for "Source of the Week" posts; I managed NPR’s “Source of the Week” blog and social media accounts; I gained experience and familiarity with in-house news tools like Seamus, Newsflex, and MTE.

Research Assistant

Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA)
Stanford, CA

January 2016 - June 2017

During my two year tenure as a research assistant at Stanford's Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis, I cycled through a number of projects whose work combined digital toolkits with humanistic inquiry.

My responsibilities varied broadly and were dependent upon project, need, and scope but included: compiling data and creating digital databases; translating Greek and Latin textual sources into English; editing and enhancing metadata for already existing projects; writing original content across social media platforms, newsletters, internal communications, and websites; cultivating and developing CESTA’s presence on social media platforms while collaborating with digital humanists globally.

I was a residential advisor employed during the summer of 2015, as well as during the 2015 - 2016 academic year in the freshmen community Junipero.

During that time, my duties were numerous, including: providing cultural, educational, and social programming throughout the year for 86 students in residence; developing a safe and academically conducive residential environment; providing conflict mediation and peer counseling; serving as a resource for residents; responding to emergency situations when necessary.
